AI agents
Connecting your AI agent
Connect Claude, Codex or any MCP client to the Inkling MCP server.
Inkling has an MCP server. MCP is an open standard that lets AI agents use tools and data. With it, Claude, Codex or any MCP client can search newsletters and read their issues for you.
Connect a client
Add Inkling as a remote MCP server:
{
"mcpServers": {
"inkling": {
"url": "https://inklingdata.com/mcp"
}
}
}
The first time you connect, you log in with your Inkling account (OAuth). Many clients, including Claude, let you add a remote server by pasting the URL https://inklingdata.com/mcp in their connectors settings.
Tools
| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
search_newsletters |
Find newsletters whose name contains a query, sorted by name, 25 per page. Searches names only, not issue text. |
get_newsletter |
One newsletter by slug: its details, how many issues we have, and its 10 latest issues. |
list_issues |
A newsletter's issues, newest first, without their text, 50 per page. Optionally only issues in a date range. |
get_issue |
One full issue as markdown, with frontmatter. See the issue format. |
A typical agent flow: search_newsletters, then get_newsletter, then list_issues for a date range, then get_issue for the ones worth reading.
Things you can ask
- "Find newsletters about retail investing. Read the last five issues of the three biggest, and tell me what they agree on."
- "List the issues of this newsletter from 2024, and summarize how its view on AI regulation changed over the year."
- "Fetch the latest issue of this newsletter and give me the three claims worth checking."
Check what the agent does
An agent can misread or misquote. Every issue includes a permalink to the original, so ask your agent to cite it, and check anything that matters.
