Getting started

Introduction

What Inkling is, who it is for, and the main parts of the app.

Inkling holds the issues of nearly 18,000 public newsletters, kept up to date hourly. You can read them in a web app, and your own AI agent can read them over an MCP server. These docs explain each part.

What is Inkling?

It is an archive of newsletter issues, nearly 2 million of them, going back to 2000. Most are Substack and similar public newsletters. Inkling gives you two ways in:

  • The web app. Search newsletters by name, page through them in a table, open one to see its details and its latest issue, and step back through every earlier issue with the arrow keys.
  • The MCP server. Connect Claude, Codex or any MCP client at https://inklingdata.com/mcp. Your agent can search newsletters by name, list a newsletter's issues and fetch any full issue as markdown.

Who it is for

  • AI and agent builders who want to give an agent newsletters to search and read.
  • Analysts and researchers who follow a space through the newsletters of the experts who write in it.
  • Marketing, PR and content teams who want to see what the top newsletters in a category write about.

What it is not

Inkling is not a reader for your own subscriptions, and it is not a monitoring platform with alerts. Today you find newsletters by name: there is no full-text search across issue text yet. See Limits.

Where to start

  1. Finding newsletters
  2. Reading issues
  3. Connecting your AI agent
